Aubrey T. Stanley grew up on a tobacco farm on the outskirts of Greensboro, NC where long days of hard work were necessary for the farm to prosper. Serving in WWII and beyond, during his military career he was fortunate to find himself stationed at Drew Airfield now known as MacDill Air Force base in Tampa, where his love of the water and fishing blossomed.
After his active duty Aubrey returned to his home in Greensboro, NC where after a short time he and wife Elizabeth decided to move back to Florida. There, in 1959, they started Stanley Sports Supply. It is doubtful that they could have anticipated the decades of success that laid in front of the fledgling firm. After their deaths, sons Ray, Bobby and David continued to grow the business from the solid foundation they had established.
Now over 62 years later the company is pleased to announce that, as of January 1st, 2022, it began a new era in the rich company’s history, under the ownership of Outdoor Traditions, LLC. Outdoor Traditions, LLC management doesn’t believe in overhauling a business, but to add services and capabilities to the personal touch and customer service of long term family businesses.
Outdoor Traditions looks to help Stanley achieve a new level of growth by leveraging its management’s experience in sales, marketing, B2B ecommerce, and purchasing. Stanley Sports Supply sells fishing tackle to independent retailers within the state of Florida primarily and has a strong focus along its west coast with its delivery services.
Stanley’s team members have years of hands-on experience in fishing tackle distribution and most are active fishermen currently. David Stanley will continue as President and direct the team’s day-to-day operations.
